HOW LIVE SCAN WORKS

This guide provides an overview of the live scan fingerprinting process. All it takes is 5 Simple Steps...

The need for live scan fingerprinting begins when you are instructed to take a live scan for employment, certification, license, immigration or permit. 

You are usually provided a Request for Live Scan Form by the requesting agency or your employer. You, then take the Live Scan Form to a certified Live Scan Technician at a DOJ Approved location.

To begin, you will complete your live scan form with your information, i.e. name, address , date of birth, etc.

You'll be asked to verify your identity by presenting a valid form of identification (i.e. Driver License, State ID Card, Passport). NOTE: If your ID is expired, you can NOT proceed to get a live scan because an expired ID is unacceptable. 

Once your identity is verified, the live scan technician will electronically scan your fingerprints and submit your provided data & fingerprint impression to the DOJ and/or FBI. 

The technician will collect payment for providing the live scan fingerprinting service, in the form of cash, credit or debit card.

You will receive an Applicant Tracking Identification Number (ATI #) at the end of your session which can be submitted to your agency or employer for proof of live scan, if needed.

As for the results , your background check results will be sent ONLY to the requesting agency, directly from the DOJ/FBI.
